Barrier Protection
Membrane-Based Barrier Systems (Type A)
Barrier protection is the core of Type A waterproofing, designed to block water at the point of entry. These systems use physical membranes, such as liquid-applied, sheet-based, or cementitious and they’re applied to the external or internal face of basement walls and floors. They’re built to resist hydrostatic pressure and prevent moisture ingress. At APP, we specify barrier systems based on ground conditions, structure type, and use case. Whether it’s new build or retrofit, we focus on long-term performance and BS 8102 compliance. If the barrier fails, the system fails. So we make sure it doesn’t.
Structural Protection
Type B Waterproofing with Structural Protection
Structural protection means the structure itself is built to resist water. This is the principle behind Type B waterproofing, where reinforced concrete is designed with waterproofing additives to block water without relying on surface membranes. At APP we specify and install Type B systems that meet BS 8102, paying close attention to joint detailing, pour sequencing and site conditions. These systems need to be planned early and executed precisely. When done right, the structure becomes the protection. Our team works directly with design and build teams to ensure everything is watertight from the ground up.
Managed Drainage
Type C Waterproofing with Managed Drainage
Managed drainage is the principle behind Type C waterproofing where water is allowed to enter but safely controlled and removed. These systems use cavity drain membranes installed on internal walls and floors to create a void that channels water to a sump and pump system. At APP we design and install Type C systems that comply with BS 8102 and can be maintained over the long term. They are especially effective where external ground pressure is high or where full exclusion is not achievable. Reliability depends on good design and access for maintenance which we build in from the start.

No PI? No problem. APP carries specialist PI for waterproofing design. This is rare and highly valuable – particularly when standard policies exclude underground works. When we install, our design is covered.”

The British standard provides guidance to deal with or prevent the entry of water from external sources into a structure situated below or partially below, ground level. It strongly encourages specifiers to appoint a specialist at the technical design stage of any project.

Installation by our team
No third-party crews. Our trained installers deliver what our designers planned, using systems from Newton, Delta, and other leading manufacturers.
Final Handover & Warranty
You’ll get a single warranty covering both design and install, with no split liability. If there’s ever a problem (there won’t be), you call us — and we handle it.
